Outreach Women’s ServicesThe Basics

Outreach was founded in 1980 by Kathleen A. Riddle in Queens, New York, and offers residential and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for adults and adolescents. Its Women’s Services division facilitates an all-female IOP for substance abuse treatment in two locations: Richmond Hills, Queens and Bellport, Long Island.

Treatment and Staff

Outreach has a multi-disciplinary approach that includes full wraparound services that treat the overall well being of a client. It refers those in need of detox to other facilities. The length of treatment can last six months or longer  and is based primarily on evidence-based practices. It implements Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), trauma-informed care, dual diagnosis support, 12-step recovery, individual and group therapy.  There are no more than 15 clients in a group session and clients attend two to five times a week. Individual therapy is set up accordingly for each client, depending on their needs and schedule. Outreach also offers vocational services, life skills education and case management.

With a staff of over 20 people, both facilities can accommodate around 100 clients. Each counselor works with 25 to 30 clients. Staff includes a director, psychiatrist, four clinicians, multiple LCSWs, LMHCs, LADCs, MFTs, RNs and medical and administrative support staff.

Extras

Outreach has administrative staff and counselors who are fluent in English, Spanish and Polish. It is the only LGBTQ affirmative program that treats transgender clients in Queens County. Childcare is provided on-site for clients with children. Transportation is also provided to clients who need it.

Outreach’s family program includes family therapy and counseling to children as young at 7 years old. Clients who are coping with a family member’s substance abuse may also seek counseling at Outreach.

For aftercare, Outreach has a Continuing Care program that includes monthly check-ins, medication assessments and a road map for care after treatment has been completed.

Outreach values the importance of showing respect to its clients and their families by providing a clean, safe, sanitary environment.

In Summary

Outreach’s Women’s Services is a multi-disciplinary IOP that treats the overall well-being of a client in two locations in Queens and Long Island.
