The Basics
Located in Brunswick, Maine, Mid Coast Hospital’s Addiction Resource Center (ARC) offers a range of outpatient services for substance abuse in a state-of-the-art setting. The intensity of treatment is gradually reduced as clients progress in recovery. With case management and an involved, hands-on staff, they experience the support needed in early recovery.
Treatment and Staff
Mid Coast’s ARC offers both outpatient and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) services for addiction with co-occurring issues. Prior to entering the program, the client undergoes an initial evaluation, which becomes the basis for their individualized treatment plan. In addition to therapy, medication-assisted treatment for opiate withdrawal is also available.
The facility uses medications such as Suboxone to help clients safely go through withdrawal. MAT services are office based for both detox and maintenance depending upon need and the facility subsidizes the cost of medications for those who can’t afford them. The length of time spent in this program depends on the client.
The three-week intensive IOP includes a combination of group, individual and family therapy. The program meets five times a week for three hours. Groups, which tend to range in size from 10 to 15 people, address topics including relapse prevention, anger management, the 12 steps, trauma and coping skills. Evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT are used throughout the program.
Traditional outpatient is typically the step down after IOP. Clients continue individual and family therapy once a week in addition to group sessions. The duration of this program depends on the individual’s needs and progress. Individual therapy is available for each client on an as-needed basis. All individual counseling sessions outside of a structured program cost $249. Group therapy sessions cost $94, while co-occurring group therapy sessions cost $175. Family therapy sessions cost $144.
The multidisciplinary staff at Mid Coast ARC consists of licensed alcohol and drug counselors LADCs, LPCs, LCSWs, family specialists, adolescent specialists, caregivers who work with women’s issues and elder issues, a physician and a psychiatrist.
Extras
Aftercare is offered on a sliding scale basis. This service includes weekly two hour groups to check-in and staff support.
