AKUA Mind & Body OHANA Outpatient Review
AKUA Mind & Body offers detox, residential treatment and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) called “OHANA,” in three locations in California’s Orange County. Founded in 2014 by Dr. Evan Miller and Kenny Dewan, AKURA Mind & Body treats clients suffering from addiction and is accredited and licensed by various agencies including the Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare. Its OHANA program for adults is located in Newport Beach.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at OHANA is an IOP and includes psychodynamic processing, CBT, DBT and EMDR via both individual and group therapy. Twelve-step recovery is also implemented. Clients experiencing withdrawal symptoms have access to Medication Assisted-Treatment (MAT) and dual diagnosis support is also readily available for anyone struggling with co-occurring disorders.
The average length of the program is 45 days. During this time, clients are expected to attend three group sessions a day and one individual session and case management session a week. Groups are mixed gender and accommodate 10 to 15 clients. Topics include relapse prevention, trauma, life skills and health. Clients also work with a nutritionist to craft a daily nutrition and diet plan.
The mixed gender staff includes psychiatrists, LMFTs, LPCCs, LCSWs, LPNs, CADCs, certified case managers, nutritionists and registered clinical support staff. The staff-to-client ratio is one- to-one.
Extras
Holistic and alternative therapies are also available to OHANA clients and include art and music therapy, Reiki, hypnotherapy and acupuncture.
AKUA’s fitness and recreational amenities including yoga, massage and meditation, are available to IOP clients. Additional relationship counseling is offered to clients and their partners. AKUA’s aftercare is an alumni program that meets for a weekly group session and a monthly activity.
