A to Z Family Services, Inc.A to Z Family Services, Inc. Review

A to Z Family Services, Inc. is a network of facilities in Idaho dedicated to mental health and substance abuse treatment. Eight facilities provide outpatient treatment services for adults, children and families in addition to court-ordered clients. Locations include American Falls, Blackfoot, Idaho Falls, Malad, Montpelier, Pocatello, Preston and Soda Springs. The staff use evidence-based practices to help clients overcome their issues. A to Z Family Services emphasizes family involvement in treatment as well, in addition to domestic violence treatment, community-based rehabilitation and case management.

Treatment and Staff

The majority of clients at A to Z Family Services are court-ordered to attend. All clients, however, must first undergo assessments and evaluations. Clients complete GAIN assessments to determine what level of care would be most appropriate for them. The staff also recommend that clients contact Benefit Programs Administration (BPA) first to be screened. BPA can then determine if a client qualifies to have his or her treatment funded. If BPA approves funding, the client obtains a referral for assessment and treatment. GAIN assessments help clients decide if they need an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), outpatient or residential treatment (which would mean a referral to an unaffiliated facility).

Staff work with clients to develop individualized plans where treatment length varies depending on each client’s needs. A to Z Family Services provides Level One outpatient treatment for all clients, including court-mandated individuals. Clients attend one to three sessions per week which can be individualgroup therapy or both, totaling about nine hours of treatment. This is not a 12-step based program; instead, the staff focuses on evidence-based treatment and trauma-informed care, which includes EMDR and IBSR. Clients typically attend two group therapy or psychoeducational groups per week. Therapy focuses on problem-solving and relapse prevention, with modalities including the Matrix Model and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (RET/REBT).

DUI education and evaluations are also available for those who need them. Groups for court-mandated clients are offered several times a week and focus on safe driving, risk assessment and safety. Staff provide these clients with drug testing, Recovery Coaching and case management.

The staff includes LCSWs, CADCs, LPCs, LMSWs, MFTs, ACADCs and a PhD/LCPC (who is the agency director).

Extras

In addition to its in-person services, A to Z Family Services also offers Virtual Tele-health counseling services. Aside from the structured programs mentioned above, outpatient facilities also offer community interventions when necessary.

A Drop-in Recovery Center is a service provided at the Blackfoot office twice a week. A to Z also offers domestic violence treatment, which provides clients education on relationship safety, coping and decision-making skills.

In Summary

A to Z Family Services, Inc. provides a large-scale treatment network throughout Idaho. Staff are adamant about making sure clients receive affordable and accessible treatment. Clinical staff are highly-trained in evidence-based practices. For those seeking group-based recovery—where 12-step treatment is not a personal requirement—A to Z Family Services offers several group options and community-based recovery services.
