The Basics
Whitian House was opened in 2012 by addiction therapist Whitney Post and her husband Brian Richmeir with the intention of bringing comprehensive treatment to those suffering from addiction and co-occurring disorders. This Lakewood, Colorado facility offers regular outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) with skills-based group and individual therapy sessions for adult men and women in Jefferson County, just west of Denver.
Treatment and Staff
Whether a client comes to Whitian House of their own accord or is court ordered to do so, each is given their own individualized treatment plan. The facility’s programs run approximately 25 weeks and are either basic outpatient (which requires less than nine hours a week of therapy), or IOP (which requires more than nine). IOP typically includes group sessions with topics such as anger management, parenting skills, relapse prevention and stress management. Mindfulness is also stressed throughout the program, using techniques like deep breathing exercises and meditation.
Therapists at Whitian House use DBT, CBT and Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) to promote effective changes in each client’s thinking process. Group sessions have a staff-to-client ratio of one-to-12.
The facility does not base their treatment on the 12 steps, though it does encourage clients to attend meetings outside of treatment. Staff at Whitian House is small, with CADCs and Master’s-level LCSWs running the programs. Many groups are led by the founder herself—Whitney Post—who has over 15 years of experience in providing therapy to those suffering from addiction.
Extras
After completing the 25-week programs, clients may step down to outpatient aftercare that provides on-going group sessions once a week for as long as clients would like to attend.

The staff at Whitian House strives to provide its clients with personalized outpatient care. All treatment is billed per- session, which is an advantage for those with financial limitations. Though their programs are limited to outpatient services, those in the Denver metropolitan area seeking traditional therapeutic treatment may find Whitian House a good fit.
