The Basics
With facilities in Fort Worth, Houston and Conroe, Texas, Volunteers of America Texas’ outpatient programs provide flexible and affordable treatment to clients struggling with addiction and substance abuse. The organization is owned and operated by the nationwide Volunteers of America, a community-oriented non-profit with a number of behavioral health resources for veterans and low-income clientele.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all incoming clients go through an assessment to help staff members develop their unique treatment plan. Although detox services are not available on-site, those in need can get referrals to outside programs as necessary. Treatment generally includes both individual and group therapy with evidence-based practices including CBT and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET). While support for basic issues like anxiety and depression may be available, those with more severe co-occurring disorders may need to seek additional help elsewhere. In addition to clinical help for addiction, groups also cover a diverse range of topics including vocational skills, emotional processing, trauma-informed care, parenting classes, relapse prevention and financial literacy. Throughout the program, all clients are also expected to go to 12-step meetings in their respective communities.
Volunteers of America Texas has LCSWs, MSWs, LCDCs, RNs, case managers and additional Master’s-level counselors on staff.
Extras
Upon completion of primary care, clients can work with the staff to design stepped down aftercare plans. Those in need of more intensive care can also attend residential treatment through Volunteers of America Texas as well.
In Summary
Volunteers of America Texas provides well-rounded and flexible treatment to men and women struggling with substance abuse. Therapy includes evidence-based care and groups focused on an array of life skills to help clients smoothly reintegrate into society. Volunteers of America continues to offer invaluable resources to the communities it serves both in Texas and across the country.
