Houston TexasThe Watershed Houston Review

The Watershed has been providing inpatient substance abuse treatment since 1998. With facilities in Clear Lake, Texas and Boynton Beach, Florida, it provides a full continuum of care. The Watershed facilitates a seven- to 14-day detox program and inpatient treatment. It houses residents while they progress from a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) to the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The Watershed has an extensive alumni network and half-way house program to help clients find support and transition to independent living following completion of primary treatment.

Accommodations and Food

The Texas facility accommodates residents in a modern one-story facility with outdoor space featuring gazebos for gathering and relaxing. Clients have roommates in the apartments and rooms, which all have a well-appointed, traditional décor and TVs in the common areas.

Residents take all meals at a nearby treatment facility, which has a credentialed staff that accommodates dietary restrictions. Once clients have completed the detox portion of their stay, they can use cell phones and personal computers.

Treatment and Staff

Following detox, clients begin treatment at the PHP level. They are transported from their residence to the nearby treatment facility for daily group and individual therapy from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Most clients stay at this level for at least two weeks. They then step down to IOP. At this time, they’re transported to the facility for group and individual therapy from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Most clients stay at this level of treatment for six weeks. Evening groups are available for clients who must to return to work or school in the area.

Addiction counselors with the CADC credential lead groups. They use CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). The treatment team also includes physicians, nurses and Master’s-level therapists well-trained in treating co-occurring disorders. The daily schedule includes gender-specific groups for men and women. Treatment plans include targeted groups for living with dual diagnosis and issues for professionals with substance use disorder.

The treatment team at The Watershed endorses the 12-step framework, which is referenced in treatment. Clients can also receive transportation to nearby 12-step meetings if they wish.

Extras

Clients participate in yoga classes or movie nights each week.

Families of clients may enroll in the family program, which incorporates group therapy and educational classes on addiction and how to identify co-dependent behavior.

The Watershed also employs case managers who work closely with each client to create an aftercare plan. They’ll help identify additional outpatient programs and therapists for clients who live beyond commuting distance to The Watershed facilities. Clients who live nearby may elect to continue coming to groups for relapse prevention and/or apply for The Watershed’s sober living programs. The Watershed cultivates an extensive alumni network and makes its treatment team available to clients “for life” for on-going support.

In Summary

The Watershed provides detox and residential treatment in near Houston, Texas and in Southeast Florida. Its residential program features comfortable accommodations, targeted programs for dual diagnosis, professionals and gender-specific treatment. With flexible time-frames and extensive aftercare options, The Watershed might be an effective option for those open to guidance on finding the long-term the treatment structure that works best for their recovery.
