MortonThe Basics

The Morton Center offers outpatient care for substance abuse and mental health issues, specializing in treating physicians, attorneys and other licensed professionals. The Kentucky-based organization has its main headquarters in a 14,500-square-foot facility in Louisville and has additional locations in Lexington and Hopkinsville. This high-end program looks to treat the individual from all angles: spiritual, mental and emotional. With the 12 steps and evidence-based therapies, clients are given the tools they need to live a happy life.

Treatment and Staff

Both adults and adolescents are welcomed at The Morton Center. Additionally, family members and children are encouraged to participate in the recovery process. The treatment approach is a mixture of the 12 steps and evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT. The various levels of care include Intensive Outpatient (IOP), an education program and a weekly therapy group for those who have completed IOP or residential. While detox is not offered, recommendations for an outside facility can be made upon request.

Initially, all clients must undergo an assessment that costs $135. Unique needs, stress triggers, strengths, abilities and preferences are all taken into account during this process; information about past relationships, education, work history and other important facts are also considered. Once this process is completed, a counselor gives the client a diagnosis and recommendation for placement.

The Adult and Adolescent Early Recovery Program is The Morton Center’s version of IOP, serving as an alternative to residential care. IOP typically runs four times a week, Mondays through Thursdays. Each session is held in the evening and is three hours in length. Treatment includes daily group counseling, education and weekly individual therapy for $160 per day. Groups focus on education, life skills, trauma, anger management and relapse prevention. As clients make progress in recovery, they begin to shorten their weeks from four to three to two days per week. There is no fixed time frame for this progression, which is determined on a case-by-base basis.

Once IOP is completed, the client can enter the Chemical Dependency Recovery Group, which runs once a week. This service is similar to the IOP, except it does not offer individual therapy; the focus is on group work instead.

Clients are highly encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings during their free time. Through the 12 steps, clients can gain access to recovery tools and a supportive community. Attendance at these meetings is not required.

The Morton Center’s staff members are a mixture of Master’s-level therapists and LDACs. Group sizes range from 10 to 15 clients at a time.

Extras

One the unique features of the Morton Center is their extensive list of family services. This includes weekly groups that focus on issues such as codependency, parents of addicted adults, parents of adolescents, couples in recovery and family of origin. In addition, therapy and education groups are offered for the children of those in treatment.

In Summary

The Morton Center uses the 12 steps and evidence-based therapies to help clients get their lives back on track. Offering outpatient care up to four times a week, this program is great for someone who wants an alternative to residential care. With extensive services for the family members of those in treatment, recovery is no longer limited to the individual suffering from chemical dependency. Overall, The Morton Center offers comprehensive care with a goal of long-term sobriety.
