The Basics
Based out of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, The Gate House is a CARF-accredited behavioral health organization founded in 1972. It offers a range of programs for clients with addiction and co-occurring disorders. In addition to gender-specific residential treatment and outpatient care, the organization also provides sober living for men and women through its sister organization, Recovery Environments, Inc (REI).
Accommodations and Amenities
All together, REI has five facilities for men and women spread in discreet locations throughout Lancaster County. There are three houses for women and two homes for men with 22 and 14 beds available, respectively. While the particular house layouts may differ, each comes with rooms shared between two to three residents with twin beds, dressers and shared closet space. Each house also includes common areas with cable TV, WiFi, laundry and fully-equipped kitchens. Though the homes keep some food in their pantries, clients are expected to cook and prepare their own meals, and buy any additional food they might want.
Rules and Regulations
Like other facilities, REI’s homes require residents to remain sober and submit to regular and random drug testing. Clients must also attend therapy (either through Gate House or another facility), find employement, go to school or volunteer to fill out their days. All clients are also required to attend regular 12-step meetings. Throughout the program, staff members offer case management services for job placement and permanent housing after treatment ends.
Extras
REI hosts community events for its residents which may include bowling nights, family dinners, game nights, holiday parties and other sober activities.
