With three locations in Illinois including Lincoln Park, Hoffman Estates and Lake Bluff, The Child, Adolescent and Family Recovery Center offers substance abuse services on an outpatient basis for adolescents and young adults, ages 13 through 20, with an emphasis on family involvement in the recovery process.

Treatment and Staff

At each of the facility’s three locations, the most comprehensive treatment option is the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) which consists of group therapy sessions four nights a week. Individual therapy can also be scheduled on an as-needed basis. Evenings typically consist of a one-hour process group followed by an hour long DBT-influenced skills training session. These are led by SCACs as well as LCDCs.

The Child, Adolescent and Family Recovery Center also offers a comprehensive family program with group therapy each week for clients and their families, as well as multi-family groups. The facility is also 12-step oriented and offers an on-site AA meeting on Friday evenings just for clients led by a member of the local recovery community.

In addition to its substance abuse program, the facility also has a clinical psychologist on staff and offers recovery programs for eating disorders, self-injury, depression and anxiety. While clients are able to develop programs that incorporate aspects of each of these tracks into their overall recovery, there is no official dual diagnosis program offered nor is medication management provided. Those in need of these services are usually referred out to an accommodating facility. Similarly, those in need of detox must also do so before enrolling.

Outpatient services at The Child, Adolescent and Family Recovery Center typically lasts 12 weeks, with clients stepping down the intensity of their program as they progress. By the end of the program, participants typically attend only one group session each week. After this, most clients at the Lake Bluff location begin attending weekly individual therapy sessions with staff members who maintain a private practice next door to the facility. Still, this is an entirely separate program even though clients can sometimes see the same therapists they worked with previously.

Extras

Aftercare is provided at The Child, Adolescent and Family Recovery Center as well, with clients able to attend group sessions when needed. Many of the graduates of the substance abuse program also return to volunteer at the facility in some capacity.

In addition to weekly DBT groups, the facility also offers a variety of alternative therapeutic groups to diversify the recovery process. Clients can expect art therapy and yoga sessions to round out their weekly therapy groups. There is also a special Girl Power group for adolescent girls and a Young Adult DBT Skills group which provides weekly group therapy sessions for 18 to 28-year-olds.

In Summary

At each of their three locations, The Child, Adolescent and Family Recovery Center offers an affordable, comprehensive IOP for substance abuse with a special focus on family. Clients can expect DBT-oriented care with a 12-step component, in addition to some alternative therapy methods. The Child, Adolescent and Family Recovery Center is still a strong resource for those in Illinois.
