The Basics
St. Joseph Hospital offers varying levels of behavioral health treatment to residents of Orange County, California. Substance abuse treatment is available to those ages 18 and older through a series of intimate group therapy sessions led by licensed therapists. St. Joseph’s offerings include a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and detox. Each program offers co-occurring disorders support to appropriate clients.
Treatment and Staff
Clients begin at St. Joseph with a 45-minute assessment during which a licensed therapist or nurse gathers all medical and psychological background information. The assessment also includes a consultation with the client’s insurance company to assure their eligibility. St. Joseph does not accept individuals with Medicaid or Medi-Cal but most other insurance companies are approved. Those in need of medical detox services are offered a three-day program on-site. After assessment, each client is assigned a case manager with whom they meet daily to go over treatment goals and progress.
The two different levels of outpatient care at St. Joseph are IOP and PHP and both are offered for four to six weeks. IOP meets Monday through Friday from 9 am to 12:30 while PHP meets Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3:30 pm, with a 30-minute lunch break at noon. Treatment consists of a variety of group therapy sessions held throughout the day.
To foster intimacy and individual attention, groups typically hold only 10 to 12 people. Group sessions rotate every hour and cover topics including psychodrama, relaxation techniques, stress management, relapse prevention and the addiction-as-a-disease model. All are facilitated by therapists who use 12-step techniques as well as evidence-based treatment including CBT and DBT.
St. Joseph also specializes in treatment for those with co-occurring disorders and can offer medication management when necessary. Staff members include therapists, nurses, LADCs and a psychiatrist.
Extras
An aftercare group for St. Joseph alumni consists of group meetings every Tuesday from 10:30 am to 12 pm. Each session is $10 and must be paid with cash or check. Jjob and vocational training sessions are also offered.
