Established in 1986, Southwest Montana Community Health Center has been providing mental, dental and behavioral health services to individuals living in Southwest Montana. SMCHC operates two facilities in Butte and Dillon, both offering outpatient mental health and substance abuse support through individual therapy sessions. Treatment caters to individuals seeking evidence-based support in an intimate setting. Those with co-occurring disorders may also receive psychiatric medication management if interested.

Treatment and Staff

Upon beginning treatment at SMCHC clients undergo an informal assessment. Through this process, counselors are able to determine the proper level of care needed for each client. Clients in need of more intensive services like inpatient or Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) treatment are offered referrals to local facilities. There is no group therapy offered at SMCHC though support group meetings such as AA/NA are highly recommended. For those in need of dual diagnosis support there are on-site psychiatrists who provide medication management.

Treatment at the Butte and Dillon facilities is offered only as individual therapy. Typically clients meet with their designated counselor once or twice a week for an hour at a time. Frequency can increase or decrease throughout treatment depending on the individual’s progress. During the first session, clients work with their counselor to set goals, after which they are closely monitored for progress. Sessions apply a traditional talk therapy approach with substance abuse counselors educating clients on the addiction as disease model.

The main techniques used for treatment at SMCHC are CBT and DBT with a focus on topics such as substance abuse, depression, anger management, anxiety, child and parenting issues and relapse prevention.

The staff at SMCHC includes LADCs, LCSWs and a psychiatrist.

In Summary

At Southwest Montana Community Health Center, individuals are offered mental health and substance abuse support. Its services aim to provide intimate therapy sessions with medication management as a supplement to treatment whenever necessary. All staff members providing behavioral health support at SMCHC are highly trained in treating addiction. In all, SMCHC is best for individuals in need of basic outpatient care.
