The Basics
With 11 locations throughout the state of Iowa, Seasons Center for Behavioral Health is a non-profit behavioral health organization that has provided outpatient treatment for chemical dependency, mental health and co-occurring disorders since 1959. The organization strives to be a convenient and accessible resource for the community and has a network of facilities in Emmetsburg, Estherville, Paulina, Rock Rapids, Sheldon, Sibley, Sioux County, Spencer, Spirit Lake and Storm Lake.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment is offered in a variety of intensities, including Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), extended outpatient and continuing care. Because all plans are individualized to each client’s needs, there is no standard duration of treatment. Programs are rooted in the 12-step principles with a particular focus on the first four steps. Each program works within the structure of individual and group therapy with an emphasis on CBT. Clients with co-occuring mental health issues can add additional therapy sessions to their program as desired.
Staff is made up of Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs), CADCs and a number of Master’s-level counselors with their own specializations. Staff qualifications may vary by program and by location.
Extras
Seasons Center for Behavioral Health has a 16-bed inpatient psychiatric unit at the Spencer Municipal Hospital geared towards short-term care for clients with severe mental illness. Aftercare is available in the form of a stepped down outpatient program, otherwise known as continuing care. Family therapy can be included in any of the substance abuse tracks.
Other services include behavioral health interventions for children, case management for clients with intellectual disabilities or behavioral problems and community outreach for those with behavioral health issues. Standard mental health counseling is available to clients of all ages on a standalone basis, as is PRIME for Life DUI classes and treatment for problem gamblers.

Though treatment is largely based in the 12 steps, clients are also treated by an expansive, professional staff trained in a number of evidence-based modalities.
