The Basics
The Santa Barbara Recovery Road Medical Center is an outpatient facility founded in 2006 by internist, Dr. Joseph Fawley and psychiatrist, Dr. Sherif El-Asyouty. Located near downtown Santa Barbara, California, the facility is in close proximity to major freeways and public transportation. It offers various programs for alcohol and drug addiction as well as help with chronic pain management and mental health disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Recovery Road accepts 27 clients at a time for a two month-long program. Treatment includes CBT, DBT, dual diagnosis support, individual and group therapy. Detox is not offered but the facility does work with outside programs to facilitate this phase of recovery, if necessary. Twelve-step philosophies are incorporated into treatment, with a focus on the first four steps, and clients are encouraged to attend outside AA/NA meetings.
The program centers around multiple weekly group sessions. Clients meet four times a week during the first month and in the second month, weekly sessions drop to two or three times a week. Groups are separated into dual diagnosis and mental health/chronic pain support. Clients also meet one-on-one with a counselor to review their treatment plan, check in on progress and allow the medical director to review medication or other medical concerns.
Staff includes four LMFTs and two medical doctors in addition to support staff.
Extras
The medical directors offer weekly Q&A sessions to answer questions about medication.
Aftercare includes weekly meetings with a network of alumni.
