The Basics
With locations in Sandy and West Valley, Utah, Sandy Counseling Centers provides outpatient treatment for clients suffering from chemical dependency, as well as for those with co-occurring disorders. Their program is solution-focused, and client-centered, and does not subscribe the disease model of addiction, which claims that addiction is a brain disease. They are very focused with helping clients become aware of the deep-seated issues that triggered their chemical addictions.
Treatment and Staff
At Sandy Counseling Centers, detox is not provided, but referrals can be provided if necessary. Clients undergo comprehensive assessments with staff, and receive individualized treatment plans. Treatment length varies, but is typically about three months. After that time, clients undergo evaluations. Weekly Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) includes three group sessions and individual therapy according to each client’s needs. The outpatient track parallels IOP but is less time intensive, typically outpatient clients attend one group session per week.
Group topics include relapse prevention, triggers, language and meaning, coping skills, grief and loss, anger management, forming solutions, keys to success, processing and readiness for change. Topics change on a weekly basis. Clients are provided with worksheets, and homework assignments, which focus on setting and accomplishing goals. The homework is discussed and clients talk about their accomplishments, as well as any issues. Groups range between eight and ten clients per session.
Evidence-based modalities, including CBT and DBT are used during treatment. Traditional psychotherapy is utilized during individual therapy. Dual diagnosis support is available, especially for those suffering from trauma. Staff includes a LMFT who serves as clinical director, LCSWs, a Doctorate-level licensed clinical social worker, a student marriage and family therapist, and a student clinical and mental health counselor.
Extras
The cost is between $40 and $55 per group session. Additionally, sliding scale fees are available for financially challenged clients.
Services are also provided for Spanish-speaking clients. Other services include a domestic violence program, support for eating disorders, a depression and anxiety support group, and a domestic violence program.
