Rosecrance OutpatientThe Basics

Rosecrance has been providing outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders at 10 locations for more than a decade. With a network of facilities that spans Chicago and northern Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa, the organization offers a variety of services to adults and adolescents. Rosecrance began in 1916 as an orphanage for boys and has grown over the years to operate a huge network of mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities. Rosecrance also offers detox, residential and recovery home programs for both adults and adolescents.

Treatment and Staff

Typically, clients find themselves at Rosecrance Outpatient after completing one of Rosecrance’s inpatient programs, though this is not required. There is no structured outpatient detox program offered. Clients in need of a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) maintenance program can be referred to the Rosecrance Dakota Clinic in Crystal Lake, Illinois and those in need of inpatient detox are referred to another nearby Rosecrance residential facility.

After an initial assessment, clients begin either the adult IOP or standard outpatient track, the adolescent program for those between the ages of 15 and 18 or the young adult program for those between the ages of 18 and 29 (young adults are also welcome to join the adult track). The IOP level of care consists of group and individual therapy three times a week for three hours. These sessions emphasize evidence-based therapeutic methods, including CBT and DBT. Clients are given an introduction to 12-step recovery, though outside meeting attendance is not always required. Clients slowly step down their care to a standard outpatient program, about two hours a week, winding down their overall treatment over the course of four months. The frequency and intensity is based on each person’s needs.

The staff varies depending on the facility, but generally includes an MD who serves as the Medical Director, as well as Master’s-level therapists whose credentials include LCSW, CADC and LADC.

Extras

Rosecrance Outpatient offers a family program. These appointments are made as requested by the client, family, or counselor during the day or evening hours.

There are also education-based addictions awareness and DUI programs designed for adults offered at select locations.

In Summary

As an expansive organization, Rosecrance Outpatient offers a wide variety of modern recovery options and the benefit of an affiliation with the larger Rosecrance network. Clients of all ages can expect individualized IOP based in CBT and evidence-based practices for those seeking an alternative to going away to rehab.
