quapawThe Basics

Quapaw Tribal Substance Abuse Services is an outpatient substance abuse treatment provider for both Native Americans and non-Native Americans in Miami, Oklahoma. Staff members are dedicated to providing educational and therapeutic services to individuals seeking recovery and clients referred by the courts.

Treatment and Staff

Quapaw provides an affordable outpatient treatment program specially tailored to meet the needs of Native Americans. All potential clients are processed with an assessment to judge their alcohol and drug intake levels. Any mental health concerns including co-occurring disorders are addressed with referrals for dual diagnosis support. All clients initially meet with a case manager to determine their treatment goals and develop an individualized plan.

The treatment facility is open Monday through Thursday from 8 am until 5 pm and on Fridays from 8 am until 4 pm. A staff of CADCs and LSWs conduct a variety of recovery-focused activities for clients. Individual therapy is offered on a weekly or biweekly basis and group therapy is held daily, covering multiple topics including drug and alcohol education, stress relief, relapse prevention, gender specific topics and Native American issues. All therapy sessions use a combination of CBT, REBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI).  Clients are encouraged but not required to attend 12-step meetings in the surrounding areas.

DUI services are available for clients going through the court system. Depending on whether it is a client’s first or second offense, Quapaw offers 10-hour and 24-hour courses to fulfill obligations. The DUI program entails a one-hour group, one education group and meetings with a case manager. Staff also provide assessments for driver’s license reinstatements in compliance with the court systems.

Extras

An anger management program is available and classes are conducted in a group setting with a therapist to focus on preventing destructive behavior. The group meets once per week and is usually segregated by gender.

Quapaw alumni can assist with a prevention program that focuses on Native American children and their families who have struggled with addiction or have been affected by another’s substance abuse or domestic violence.

In Summary

Quapaw Tribal Substance Abuse Services offers substance abuse treatment using evidence-based methods in an outpatient setting. While much of the treatment is targeted toward a Native American demographic, non-Native Americans are welcome to participate. Clients receive individualized treatment experience at a low cost.
