Scottsdale ArizonaThe Basics

Psychological Counseling Services is a private practice group founded in 1973 by Dr. Ralph H. Earle. For over 40 years, PCS has offered intensive services treating depression, eating disorders, anxiety and substance abuse using evidence-based methods. All programs are outpatient-based and focus on addressing and arresting damaging behavior.

All therapeutic services focus on providing an individualized experience that focuses on healing the whole person using a holistic treatment approach.

Treatment and Staff

PCS’ mental health services treat a wide range of needs. Prior to enrolling, potential clients must come to the office for a bio-psycho-social assessment to determine the appropriate program. Dual diagnosis support is also provided through supplemental groups. All treatment programs fall under an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that are adjusted to each individual’s ability to attend, with some clients attending just one session per week and others attending 12 hours per day for a week.

PCS endorses the practice of treating the entire individual through emotional, physical, spiritual and cognitive work in order to increase the chances of long-term recovery. Therapists use DBT techniques as well as EMDR and psychodrama to facilitate change. Clients attend a combination of group and individual therapy, family and couples therapy. Group sessions incorporate psycho-education as well as specialty topics including communication skills, compulsive behaviors, building healthy boundaries, anger management, spirituality, codependency and mindfulness.

Clients attend groups with a mix of fellow substance abuse clients as well as those enrolled in a range of tracks focusing on other mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and eating disorders. Special focus groups are available for substance abuse clients as well as gender-specific groups.

Treatment may last anywhere from one week to 30 days in total. Clients engage in over 30 hours of individual, couples or family therapy and attend 20 hours of group therapy. Treatment is trauma-informed care and is sensitive towards the different struggles occurring in each setting. The staff at PCS have credentials that include PhD, MFTs, LPCs and CASACs. All therapists are Master’s-level or above and are qualified to work with a wide range of disorders.

Extras

Once per week, PCS holds an equine therapy group on Sundays from 5 to 6:30 pm. Clients suffering from extensive trauma or PTSD are especially encouraged to attend this group to build trust and relationships with their peers. Gender-specific programs are also available for women, as are groups for sexual offenders and individuals who struggle with sexual compulsivity.

In Summary

Psychological Counseling Services provides those seeking treatment for substance abuse with the unique opportunity to recover in peer groups with others struggling with a range of mental health issues. All IOP clients attend group and individual therapy, family and couples therapy, providing a comprehensive therapeutic experience. Therapists work with clients to heal the mind, body and spirit with a holistic approach to treatment and clients have the flexibility to tailor treatment to fit their life schedules.
