Ann Arbor MichiganThe Basics

Michigan’s Ann Arbor Treatment Services opened its doors in 2015 to provide outpatient Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) to opioid addicts in Southeastern Michigan. Currently, the clinic offers treatment plans using methadone. Its mission is to provide services that treat each client holistically using evidence-based methods of treatment and helping them to develop the skills to live a normal life free of addiction.

Ann Arbor is a member of the Pinnacle provider network, which operates a number of outpatient and residential facilities throughout Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Virginia, Ohio, Minnesota and Michigan.

Treatment and Staff

After clients are assessed, they receive treatment plans that require attendance of individual and group therapy in tandem with MAT. Clients must attend individual counseling at least once a week during their first phase of treatment, which usually lasts 90 days. Once clients have established a rapport with their primary counselors, they are then encouraged to attend group sessions. Most clients begin group therapy after 30 to 60 days of treatment. With successful attendance and clean drug screens, clients can step down to less frequent therapy sessions in subsequent phases of treatment.

The treatment team at Ann Arbor includes LPCs, nurses and physicians. Groups use CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and DBT to address early recovery issues, handling triggers and relapse prevention. Psychoeducation groups explore the disease of addiction and stimulants. Gender-specific groups are available for both men and women. Counselors may also help clients locate local peer support meetings such as Methadone Anonymous if they think it would be beneficial.

While co-occurring disorders are addressed in therapy, clients in need of dual diagnosis support are referred to nearby mental health clinics.

Clients receive take-home does on Saturdays since the clinic is closed on Sundays; after clients have completed 60 days of successful treatment, they can begin applying for additional take-home doses of methadone.

Extras

Ann Arbor encourages families to take part in treatment and welcomes them to attend individual therapy for family counseling. It may also add a family education group in the future, if requested by clients.

In Summary

Ann Arbor Treatment Services is a new addition to the city’s robust recovery community. With multiple processing groups each week, including gender-specific and stimulants groups as well as referrals to peer support meetings and other resources, Ann Arbor’s treatment team is committed to helping clients develop the coping skills to stave off addiction.
