The Basics
Peninsula Lighthouse in Knoxville, Tennessee provides an outpatient treatment program for adults struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Part of Peninsula Behavioral Health, it offers two Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), a co-ed track for anyone over the age of 18 and a special gender-specific track for women only, offering treatment to those who are uninsured. Through these programs, Peninsula does its best to provide care to a wide range of local residents in need of assistance.
Treatment and Staff
The co-ed IOP typically runs six to eight weeks, with clients attending three- to four-hour sessions a minimum of four days a week. Working within the structure group therapy, treatment involves evidence-based methods including CBT as well as 12-step recovery, addressing a variety of topics including relapse prevention. Educational sessions are also part of treatment and both individual and family therapy are provided on an as-needed basis.
Women in Treatment is Peninsula Lighthouse’s specialized IOP for women without health insurance or who don’t have the means to pay for their treatment. Funded by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, this group is run by a licensed Master’s-level clinician, Monday through Friday and is designed to help develop peer support and address topics such as self-esteem, body image, conflict resolution, parenting, relationships and relapse prevention. Case management services are also available.
Clients suffering with a dual diagnosis—such as depression, anxiety and ADHD—can see a psychiatrist or psychiatric Nurse Practitioner on a weekly basis for prescriptions and medication management.
Staff includes psychiatrists, psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Peninsula Behavioral Health also offers treatment for adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 through its standard IOP.
