The Basics
Peak Behavioral Health Services is located just a few miles from the Mexico border and El Paso Texas in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. The facility offers detox and outpatient care for those struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders in a hospital setting. There are programs for adolescents and adults that are a combination of traditional and holistic placed in a group therapy setting. PBH operates under the umbrella of parent company Strategic Behavioral Health.
Treatment and Staff
Following an over the phone assessment, a more thorough in-person intake process is the first step for receiving treatment at Peak Behavioral Health. If detox is necessary, a five to seven day, medically monitored inpatient stay takes place. During this phase clients meet with a counselor to discuss their treatment options and design an individualized treatment plan. The 92-bed facility can accommodate adolescents and adults under the same roof that, while in a clinical setting, strives to provide all the comforts of home.
Once detox is completed clients can begin treatment in either the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which are offered to both adults and adolescents. The PHP is a five-day a week treatment that is between four and six hours each, and generally lasts for two to six weeks for each program. Whether clients step down into, or start with, the IOP, it is a three-day a week programs for three hours each time, and runs approximately four weeks. The outpatient tracks focus on relapse prevention, coping skills, communication skills and psychoeducational lectures. Both programs provide lunch or snack, and transportation can be arranged by the facility.
Therapy varies from client to client, and can include CBT methods, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), as well as holistic options, like recreational therapy, art, and music therapy, Tai Chi, aromatherapy, animal therapy and meditation. The programs include several group sessions per week, and one individual session. Diagnosis of a co-occurring disorder during treatment and offering medication management services is also available.
The clinical staff at Peak Behavioral Health Services provides experienced care from therapists and doctors that are LCSWs, Master’s-level LPCs and recreational therapy specialists.

Peak Behavioral Health offers both family and couples therapy in a group or individual setting, as well as devising an aftercare plan during treatment.
