The Basics
Pawnee Mental Health Services was founded in 1956 and serves as one of Kansas’ most prominent outpatient facilities, providing comprehensive substance abuse treatment to adolescents and adults with several locations throughout the state. There is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a standard outpatient track, both of which use a holistic approach to recovery. Additionally, this facility offers relapse prevention, psychoeducation and aftercare for those struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Adolescents and adults undergo an in-depth assessment to determine the necessary level of care. Evaluations take into account current living situations, mental and physical health. Psychiatric evaluations are available in the case of dual diagnosis and, if needed, medication management is available.
The IOP requires a minimum of nine treatment hours a week, consisting of group therapy, in three-hour slots, and an hour-long individual session. In some adolescents cases, home therapy is an option, but this is typically only offered when there is a risk of the child being removed from the home. As treatment progresses, recovery goals are discussed and the option of stepping down to the standard outpatient track is presented. This program meets once or twice a week in a group setting, though treatment plans are individualized so schedules may vary.
Treatment employs evidence-based methods such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and DBT. Anger management and parenting courses are also available, as are referrals to outside support meetings like AA/NA or Celebrate Recovery.
The clinical staff of Pawnee Mental Health Services includes LMFTs, LCSWs, LPC and psychiatric nurses.
Extras
Couples and family counseling is available in a private setting. There are also school outreach programs through this facility that provide educational lectures and employee programs.

Pawnee Mental Health Services have been serving its community for over 55 years by bringing quality treatment and community programs to individuals and families. It has a clear mission to provide support for recovery in a caring, judgment-free environment.
