The Basics
Palouse River Counseling is a behavioral health provider in Pullman, Washington. For over 50 years, PRC has assisted adults with mental health and chemical dependency issues in an outpatient setting. In addition to substance abuse, PRC offers treatment services for individuals with developmental disabilities and co-occurring disorders. An off-site challenge course is available which aims to help clients develop their communication skills, self-confidence and ability to work with a team. Combining alternative, evidence-based and traditional methods of treatment, clients work with a credentialed team who help them to recovery in body, mind and spirit.
Treatment and Staff
Substance abuse treatment at PRC is available for both adolescents and adults. While the program itself offers structure and uniformity, PRC’s individualized treatment allows clients to recover based on their unique needs. Since PRC also works with clients who have developmental disabilities and co-occurring disorders, dual diagnosis support is offered in conjunction with chemical dependency. Staff includes psychologists, Licensed LCSWs, nurse practitioners and LCDCs. All staff members are licensed and certified by the State of Washington.
After clients are bio-psycho-socially assessed by the intake staff, they are enrolled and follow a track developed by the staff and progress through the program is adjusted as-needed to ensure each individual is comfortable. New clients typically attend psycho-education courses as well as group therapy sessions. Therapists typically utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques that include CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Clients may attend groups up to two times per week. Individual therapy is also available as both a primary mode of treatment or once per week in conjunction with groups. Community resources are also available including 12-step meetings and similar sober fellowships.

Palouse River Counseling offers alternative treatment methods in the form of physical and mental tests. A challenge course is located close to the facility that incorporates games and activities that aim to develop teamwork, problem solving skills, communication, confidence and focus.
