The Basics

Based out of Los Angeles and Encino, California, Of One Mind is a behavioral health organization and rehab with flexible treatment options for clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Because the facility is relatively small, treatment plans are highly individualized and flexible enough to fit many schedules. In addition to its outpatient options, Of One Mind also provides supervised housing, a program somewhat like short-term sober living, which may or may not include therapy.

Accommodations and Amenities

The supervised housing facility is a modest, residential home in West Los Angeles with a total of four beds available for male and female teens and young adults. Each bedroom comes with a full bed and basic decorations as well as end tables, dressers and shared closet space. There are also common areas with cable TV, WiFi throughout, on-site laundry, a ping-pong table and a fully-equipped kitchen. Though residents are sometimes taken out to eat and groceries are provided, they are expected to help with meal preparation and learn how to cook for themselves.

Because housing is usually reserved for clients attending one of Of One Mind’s outpatient or Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), it differs from most sober livings in that the length of residency is generally quite short-term. There is always at least one staff member who lives on site.

Rules and Regulations

As with most sober living homes, clients are required to remain busy during the day whether that means volunteering, attending therapy, working or going to school. Residents must also stay sober and submit to regular and random drug testing, as well as attend all mandatory house meetings and educational sessions.

Of One Mind facilitates basic life skills classes that teach residents to cook, clean, seek employment and live a more balanced life. Though nearby AA/NA meetings are available, attendance is not strictly required.

Also worth noting, the home is not a lockdown facility; assuming they are in good standing, clients can generally come and go as they please. There are no minimum or maximum length stays but residents generally remain in the program for a month or slightly longer.

Extras

All clients are also given gym memberships for the duration of their stay. As an added bonus, those living in the house also get to participate in a range of rotating house activities which generally happen in the evenings—these can include trips to the movies or to the bowling alley.

In special situations, Of One Mind can also accept residents who are “struggling to launch” rather than those who simply have addiction issues. More generally, the facility is also particularly open to participants who have tried other programs and been unsuccessful.

In Summary

In all, Of One Mind’s supervised housing program is a worthy supplement to its evidence-based outpatient treatment plans. Though there is no standard program, all residents can expect active daily schedules and a good balance of freedom and structure. While the cost of these programs is likely to vary depending on insurance and treatment specifics, Of One Mind remains a strong resource.
