Oceanfront Recovery Review
Oceanfront Recovery operates a collection of recovery residences for men throughout Laguna Beach, California. Its eight homes and clinical facility treat men at every stage in recovery, from detox through outpatient care. Oceanfront also has a dedicated residence for executives in recovery. Its multi-disciplinary treatment team uses multiple evidence-based treatment modalities as well as alternative healing practices such as yoga therapy and acupuncture.
Accommodations and Food
The residences, all in close proximity to the beach, usually house six clients each and most clients can expect to have roommates. The executive residence has private rooms. Once clients move from the detox residence to residential treatment homes, they have use of their cell phones and laptops.
The newly-renovated homes have fire pits, jacuzzis, hardwood floors and flat-screen TVs. Most have decks and outdoor space for recreation and gourmet kitchens with stainless steel appliances.
The detox and residential homes have a private chef who prepares all meals and snacks according to clients’ preferences. Oceanfront has residences to house clients in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) levels of care. In those residences, clients receive prepaid cards to use for food purchases in order to learn budgeting and are expected to make meal plans and prepare their food.
Treatment and Staff
Clients in residential treatment start each day with group therapy at 9 am. They continue to have treatment groups until 2:30 pm. In the afternoons, clients participate in experiential therapy including meditation, acupuncture, yoga and music therapy. In the evenings, they are transported to peer support meetings, such as AA/NA and SMART Recovery. Therapy uses CBT, DBT, EMDR and Seeking Safety. Clients have individual therapy at least once a week.
Throughout treatment, clients meet with their primary counselor to create aftercare plans. Most clients step down from residential treatment to PHP/IOP while remaining in residence. PHP clients participate in treatment groups throughout each week day, and IOP clients usually have half-days of treatment while working or attending school. PHP treatment plans average two weeks and IOP treatment plans average 10 weeks.
The treatment team includes MFTs, CADCs, nurses and physicians and psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners for dual diagnosis support. Oceanfront also employs a nutritionist and yoga therapist.
Extras
After completing their IOP treatment plan, Oceanfront helps clients locate sober living options in the area. Families are encouraged to visit and participate in family therapy.
Each weekend, the staff organizes excursions such as movie, bowling and museum trips. Oceanfront alumni also visit the residences weekly to share their recovery stories.
