Located in Savannah, Georgia, NewDay Counseling provides outpatient substance abuse treatment for men and women. Clients typically participate in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and are strongly encouraged to attend 12-step recovery support meetings in the local area. NewDay clients are offered ambulatory detox in the form of Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), specifically Suboxone to help ease withdrawal symptoms from opiates. MAT clients are required to attend IOP and work toward a goal of complete abstinence.

Treatment and Staff

Prior to admittance, clients undergo a free, comprehensive evaluation with staff to determine if NewDay Counseling is a good fit. Upon entrance, individuals meet with the medical director, and receive a physical, a drug screening, blood work, a comprehensive assessment and obtain an individualized treatment plan. For those dealing with opiate withdrawal, Suboxone is offered on a short-term basis only. Other non-addictive medications for co-occurring disorders are also prescribed for clients requiring dual diagnosis supportMedication management is provided if necessary.

The eight-week IOP meets from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Weekly treatment includes at least one individual session, group therapy and addiction education. Group topics include spirituality, relapse prevention, trauma, coping skills and relationship issues. Groups range in size, but the maximum number of clients in any group setting is no more than 15 clients. At NewDay Counseling, evidence-based methods are used, including CBT and DBT. Clients are taught to utilize community resources, and attend recovery support meetings. Some clients attend 12-step meetings, others go to Rational Recovery, and some individuals opt for church or Celebrate Recovery.
