The Basics
Founded in Brooklyn in 2003, New York Service Network Inc (NYSNI) is licensed by the state’s Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) to provide outpatient treatment to adults.
Treatment and Staff
While many incoming clients have been referred from outside residential and detox programs, NYSNI also accept self-referred clients and is able to help them apply for Medicaid if they do not have insurance. The intake process involves meeting with case managers and counselors so that an individualized treatment plan can be created.
Treatment consists of group and individual therapy that employs CBT, as well as a variety of groups offered throughout the day that address addiction education, peer sharing, anger management and relapse prevention. Groups last approximately one hour and have no more than 15 clients. NYSNI also offers a special group that focuses on opioid dependency issues. Individual sessions are scheduled as needed. The exact length and intensity of treatment is based on counselor assessment.
While treatment does not integrate 12-step recovery principles, clients are welcome to attend outside AA and NA meetings to supplement their recovery.
Clients with a dual diagnosis are given additional mental health counseling overseen by the staff psychiatrist.
Staff consists of MDs, RNs, Psychiatrists, case managers, LCSWs and CASACs.
Extras
NYSNI does not have an official aftercare program but clients who have completed their treatment plan often step down to attending group meetings once a week and then once every other week. Clients are also assisted with finding and securing sober housing as well as vocational training.
