The Basics
Founded in 2012 by mental health professional Amna Butler, Miracles in Action Outpatient in Burbank, California, provides an outpatient program with varying levels of care for clients suffering from chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. Their companion co-ed sober living house provides accommodations for clients in their outpatient program and is also open to other individuals in recovery.
Treatment and Staff
Potential clients undergo clinical assessments with a counselor and receive individualized treatment plans. There are three levels of care available at Miracles in Action. The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) requires between 25 and 30 hours a week, while the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a nine-hour commitment and the Outpatient Program (OP) meets for just three hours a week.
Miracles in Action utilizes evidence-based modalities like CBT and DBT, as well as traditional psychotherapy. Weekly treatment includes group and individual therapy, life skills support, psychoeducational classes, check-ins and further assessments, which are determined per client’s needs. The psychoeducational classes teach about the mental and physical effects of substance abuse and addiction. There are no more than 12 clients in a group and topics include relapse prevention, coping skills, trauma, dual diagnosis support, and topics picked by the participants, which they believe are significant to their recovery process. Clients are also required to attend three weekly 12-step meetings, as part of their protocol.
The small treatment team of approximately six employees includes California-certified CADC’s.
Extras
Aftercare is one day per week and consists of individual, group and family therapy, as well as continued attendance at 12-step meetings. Miracles in Action Outpatient also provides an IOP for clients suffering from eating disorders.
In Summary
Miracles in Action Outpatient provides comprehensive outpatient services, ranging form a very intensive PHP to basic outpatient and aftercare services. Additionally, they accept PPO insurance, and will work with out-of-pocket clients who are in dire need of services. Burbank is home to many AA/NA meetings, including the Burbank Group off of Hollywood Way. For those seeking a great outpatient program in a convenient location, this is a good choice.
