The Basics
Merced County Alcohol and Drug Services (MCADS) is one of the service programs funded by the county of Merced to support residents of the surrounding community. Located in the town of Merced, California, clients are in close proximity to Yosemite National Park and other natural northern California beauty. MCADS offers both adult and adolescent outpatient treatment programs.
Treatment and Staff
The adult outpatient treatment program is referred to as The Center and the adolescent outpatient treatment program is called Recovery Assistance for Teens (RAFT). The two programs are structured similarly, however, treatment modalities differ slightly to cater to the specific needs of each demographic.
Both programs are highly individualized and start with an initial assessment and evaluation to determine the level of care needed, which treatments would best benefit the client and the recommended frequency of attendance. The treatment plan is subject to change at any time as the client progresses in recovery.
Treatment typically consists of individual therapy once a week, family therapy as needed and group therapy at least twice a week. The adult program offers a variety of group topics including a co-dependency group, relapse prevention group, perinatal groups, men’s and women’s gender-specific recovery groups, denial management groups, Spanish-speaking groups and an alcohol and information group. The adolescent program offers a range of group topics as well including 12-step meetings, family group, life skills development, socialization and recreation, relapse prevention, teen issues, girls world group and parent awareness groups.
The type of therapy implemented in both programs is generally CBT-based. Neither program caters to clients with dual diagnoses, however staff provides referrals to outside programs to meet this need. The length of the program is different for everyone and may change depending on the progress of the client.
The staff at MCADS consists of psychologists, case managers, LPCs, LCSWs and CADCs.
In Summary

The incorporation of AA/NA principles ensures clients can establish a network of peer support outside of their formal treatment. With a diverse range of group topics, clients may find the right peer support group to meeting their unique recovery needs.
