The Basics
Mental Health Resources, Inc. (MHR) is a non-profit mental and behavioral health agency that provides a variety of treatment services to both clients enrolled in their programs and the broader New Mexico community. With locations in more than five counties in the eastern part of the state, clients have the option to attend treatment at the location that is most convenient for them. MHR offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Those wishing to enroll in the IOP must first go through an assessment and evaluation to help counseling staff develop an individualized treatment plan based upon their particular needs. In meeting with the IOP criteria, clients must attend a minimum of 10 hours of therapy per week. The duration of treatment is anywhere between three and six months.
Therapy is based in CBT methodology and typically combines group and individual therapy, family therapy, relapse prevention and specialized treatment for those with co-occurring disorders. Group sessions are held at various times throughout the week while family and individual sessions are scheduled independently. The 12-steps are not integrated into treatment, however, clients may be referred to a local chapter for additional support if desired.
The staff at MHR, Inc. is a combination of therapists, CSWs, LMHCs and Multisystemic Therapists (MSTs).

In addition to its substance abuse and dual diagnosis programs, Mental Health Resources, Inc. also offers a variety of other health and wellness services to its clients and community members. Other resources include general counseling, psychiatric services, community support services, psychosocial rehabilitation services, crisis services, behavior management services and a juvenile corrections program.
