Lifestyle Changes Counseling provides outpatient treatment in Springfield, Oregon for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. The organization takes a holistic approach to healing and recovery, fighting the battle against addiction on physical, emotional and spiritual levels. The team at Lifestyle Changes has been offering help to adolescent and adult addicts and their families living in Lane County and surrounding areas since 2002.
Treatment and Staff
Those interested in treatment must first schedule an assessment, facilitated by a psychologist. Eligible clients are assigned a primary counselor for individual therapy sessions. While substance abuse groups are not offered, clients attend one-on-one counseling several times per week if necessary. Treatment modalities include CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) and therapy addresses family dynamics, addiction and health, coping skills, identifying triggers and spiritual counseling. Outside 12-step support groups such as AA, NA and Alanon are encouraged when appropriate.
Adolescents under the age of 16 are required to have written consent prior to treatment. Adolescent sessions are facilitated by a Master’s-level therapist specializing in child psychology. Parents, legal guardians and immediate relatives are encouraged to attend family therapy sessions. Therapy topics include peer pressure, healthy recreation, addiction, brain development and coping skills.
In addition to individual counseling, Lifestyle Changes Counseling offers Healthy Healing Addiction Treatment, a one-year Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that addresses all aspects of addiction including family relations. Clients attend lectures on health and nutrition, individual therapy and family groups and attend an outside support system. With the help of guided meditations, clients are encouraged to find a spiritual path. Clients are encouraged to explore healthy pastimes and, by the end of the year, are engaged in sober hobbies and activities.
Lifestyle Changes Counseling offers workshops that focus on such topics as depression, post-traumatic stress, panic attacks and problem-solving. One workshop, called “Moving On,” is offered to adults who feel stuck in their lives; another, “Working With Criminal Manipulation,” is offered to those who work with criminal offenders.
Lifestyle Changes Counseling may be best suited to clients who have outside responsibilities to attend to while in treatment. The workshops offered on issues related to substance abuse, like problem solving and depression, may be helpful to clients navigating the early stages of recovery.
