The Basics
An CARF-certified institution since 2007, Keys Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic is based in New Iberia, Louisiana, a small suburb located 30 miles southeast of Lafayette. As befitting its name, the facility provides outpatient care for substance abuse including an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for clients with co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Typically, clients find themselves at Keys Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic after attending an inpatient program elsewhere, though this is not required. There are no detox services offered though clients in need of this procedure can be referred to a nearby accommodating facility. After an initial assessment, clients begin their program at Keys, usually beginning with the IOP, which consists of group and individual therapy three times a week. These sessions emphasize evidence-based therapeutic methods, including CBT and holistic treatment practices such as interactive journaling as well as art and music therapy. Clients can expect an introduction to 12-step recovery, though this is not emphasized. Typically, clients slowly de-escalate their program to a standard outpatient program, winding down their overall treatment over the course of four months. Of course, this varies based on each client’s needs.
In order to accommodate clients who may be working while attending treatment, the facility offers both morning sessions which range from nine am to 11:50 am and evening sessions which take place between four and eight pm. There is also a special adolescent program for clients between the ages of 12 and 18.
Keys Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic offers services for clients in need of dual diagnosis support. There is a specialized PHP for clients addressing co-occurring disorders which differs from the IOP by including an extra session each week and regular visits with the on-staff psychiatrist. In terms of other staff, the clinical director holds PhD, LCSW and LAC credentials, and he works alongside an administrative coordinator and a case manager who’s also an LPN.
Extras
Keys offers a family program which consists of family attendance and participation every Tuesday night. This evening is also designated for alumni of the program, who, in lieu of aftercare, can continue to attend group sessions at Keys Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic indefinitely.
Clients in need of a less intensive program than Keys Behavioral Outpatient Health Clinic’s IOP or PHP can take advantage of the facility’s 10-hour substance abuse course, which offers an introductory education class aimed at promoting positive and healthy lifestyle choices. There is also a 10-hour course offered specifically for anger management as well as a half-day anger management training seminar for businesses.

Though a relatively small organization, Keys Behavioral Health Clinic offers a wide variety of modern recovery options. Clients can expect an IOP steeped in CBT and evidence-based practices as well as a PHP for those with co-occurring disorders, an adolescent program and weekly opportunities for family participation.
