The Basics
Kathy Marcil is a board registered interventionist based in Scottsdale, Arizona. Marcil’s expertise lies in counseling women, couples and families who are approaching or undertaking recovery. She specializes in relationships, crisis, confidence and addiction issues. Her lengthy list of qualifications includes Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), Nationally Certified Addiction Counselor, Certified Critical Incident Stress De-briefer and Board Registered Interventionist. She is also a member of the National Speakers Association and a nationally recognized speaker on issues of addiction, intervention and recovery.
The Background
Marcil is a recovering addict with 32 years clean and sober. She has been conducting interventions for the past 30 and trained under addiction pioneer, Ernie Larsen. She is also the co-founder of Clinical Services of Employee Assistance Program Consultants, Inc and has served as vice president since 1998. This company focuses on the assistance and treatment of professionals dealing with psychological and emotional issues that impact their ability to do their jobs. Marcel is currently an independent life coach and a staff member at Intervention Services of Arizona (ISA). In the past, she was an addiction counselor for Villa Residential Treatment and Banner Behavioral Health Hospital of Scottsdale.
The Approach
Marcil’s approach includes an initial complementary consultation session for the concerned parties who feel the need to conduct the intervention. This meeting determines whether it is in fact what is necessary and may take place over the phone or in person. Family members are welcome, as are any affected and concerned friends or colleagues of the person in need of intervention.
Help to the client and his or her support circle extends to aiding in the choice of an appropriate detox facility or treatment facility if the client decides to seek help. Marcil has many professional connections in the treatment community and can make recommendations or liaison with colleagues to facilitate a smooth transition for clients. Additionally, Marcil is committed to helping determine the most appropriate options to match each family’s treatment budget.
Post-Intervention and Summary
As a member of ISA, Kathy Marcil’s intervention capabilities include the various aspects of preparing and conducting an intervention, as well as facilitating the execution. Support extends from educating family members about the disease of addiction in an effort to prepare them for the intervention, to making any necessary travel and treatment arrangements. Marcil continues her support and work with families while clients go into some level of treatment, providing counseling or recommendation for self-help meetings. Additionally, she remains available for additional support in case of relapse or for developing a relapse prevention plan when needed.
