Located in Hillsboro, Oregon, Inner Journey Healing Arts helps adults and children heal from stress, mental health issues and substance abuse struggles. Rather then relying solely on talk therapy, this facility integrates holistic methods such as art therapy, nutrition and acupuncture. Clients can also find relief through Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and family therapy.
Treatment and Staff
Inner Journey offers outpatient treatment in the form of individual and group therapy. Before beginning treatment, each client must undergo an initial assessment after which an individualized recovery plan is developed. Clients are welcome via self-referrals, the criminal justice system, school districts or their families. Detox and residential are not offered.
Inner Journey’s IOP is the highest level of support with two hours of therapy three times a week. The duration of this program varies greatly depending on the individual. Treatment involves a mixture of individual and group therapy. Using evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT, clients work on their triggers and negative thought patterns. Rather then just relying on talk therapy, clients are also immersed in alternative healing methods such as aromatherapy, acupuncture and art therapy. Discussion topics typically include relapse prevention, PTSD, coping skills, anger management and trauma. Rather then relying on the principles on AA, this program uses an alternative system called the 16 Steps. Staying true to their holistic model, this program takes a mind, body and spirit approach to the traditional 12 steps. Meetings are offered on-site once a week.
As clients progress in IOP, they may opt to step down to the less intensive basic outpatient track. Gradually, weekly attendance requirements decrease from two to just one session.
Individual therapy is also available as stand-alone treatment on a case-by-case basis. With the help of a counselor, clients address the underlying causes for their issues. Family sessions are also scheduled to foster healthy communication among loved ones. The frequency of sessions varies from client to client.
The staff is composed of Lisa Burnell (LADC and certified art therapist) and Jay Nelson, the program director who is also certified as a massage therapist. Additionally practitioners of acupuncture and Naturopathic Physicians are available. Groups max out at 10 clients.
Inner Journey Healing Arts is an intimate outpatient program that provides holistic alternatives combined with traditional therapy for those with substance abuse issues. The Inner Journey program is ideal for those looking for a new-age approach to treating addiction with flexible scheduling and evidence based modalities.
