Harmony Heals Review
Located in the upscale enclave of Laguna Beach, in southern California, Harmony Heals provides detox and residential treatment as well as outpatient treatment in its nearby clinical facility, Harmony Heals Counseling. Harmony Heals specializes in trauma-informed care and uses a number of evidence-based, holistic and alternative healing modalities to help clients process the trauma that’s impacted their addiction.
Harmony Heals is owned and operated by married couple Gina H. Tabrizy and Farid Tabrizy. Gina, an LMFT, is the facility’s clinical director, and Farid, who has an extensive background in massage therapy and martial arts, is its CEO. Harmony Heals Counseling has been in operation for 30 years and opened its detox and residential facility three years ago.
Accommodations and Food
Clients reside in a luxurious beachfront home. The residence has 12 beds and each client has one roommate. The home has gym equipment and TVs and games for recreation. Clients are not permitted personal electronics such as phones and laptops, but supervised computer use is allowed for teaching job search skills. A chef creates all meals and snacks, which are prepared according to clients’ nutritional needs and preferences.
Treatment and Staff
Detox usually lasts five to seven days, and clients engage in the residential treatment schedule as soon as they’re able. Most residential treatment plans are 28 days. Days begin at 7 am with meditation, medication and breakfast. After, clients participate in full days of group therapy, life skills and education classes and individual therapy. In the late afternoons and evening, clients complete recovery homework, exercise and are transported to local 12-step or SMART Recovery meetings. Lights are out at 11 pm.
Therapy uses CBT, DBT, shame reduction and psychodrama. Clients usually have individual therapy twice a week, which may include EMDR treatment.
The treatment team includes MFTs, CATCs, LVNs and behavioral techs for 24/7 support and supervision. Harmony Heals also works with a psychiatrist for dual diagnosis support and a physician for Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with Suboxone.
Extras
Harmony Heals’ alternative healing practices include Reiki, zen services, guided imagery work, yoga, massage and music therapy. Clients also participate in a weekly goal-setting session.
Clients are encouraged to invite loved ones for family therapy and family visiting hours on weekends. Residents watch a recovery-oriented movie on Friday nights and staff take clients on local outings such as bowling and museum trips on Saturdays. For an additional fee, clients can purchase a membership at a nearby gym and receive personal training sessions.
Alumni are invited to residence each week to share their recovery stories. For aftercare, clients may continue to attend treatment groups during the day at the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) level of care and/or step-down to Harmony Heals Counseling’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
