haley houseHaley House Review

Established in 2007, Haley House in rural western New Jersey is a transitional living facility for adult women 18 and up. Based on the 12 steps, this program is open to clients who have completed a residential or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) prior to moving in and are  seeking additional structure and support. On the banks of the Paulinskill River, Haley House offers a comprehensive program for those suffering from addiction and co-occurring disorders.

Accommodations and Amenities

Haley House is situated on 10 acres of land on the main campus of Alina Lodge, a long-term residential facility. The two-story colonial-style home has seven bedrooms with private bathrooms, all of which are double-occupancy and can accommodate up to 14 clients total. The house has large living rooms with big screen TVs and fireplaces. There’s also a shared kitchen and dining area with stainless steel appliances and marble countertops and a meditation room for daily reflection. An on-site exercise room with machines and weights is available to clients throughout the day.

Residents participate in recreational activities and outings during their time at Haley House. Depending on the season, these can include hiking, camping and rafting trips—even horseback riding in some cases. Evening excursions may include movie nights, trips to the theater to watch plays or visits to local museums.

All food is included in the Haley House rent, with clients taking turns grocery shopping and preparing meals for each other a couple of times a week.

Rules and Regulations

Those staying at Haley House participate in a therapy program in addition to attending at least five 12-step meetings a week. New residents must be at least 30 days sober prior to moving in, though clients often come directly from another, more intensive program. All residents receive four group therapy sessions and one individual therapy session per week, working closely with therapists to design individualized goals and treatment plans. If clients need additional support such as help with eating disorders or medication management, Haley House can provide those resources as well. Staff check in with residents through daily morning meetings at the facility and at group house meetings that take place several times a week.

The minimum required stay at the facility is three months, though most clients are recommended to stay at least six months. Residents are encouraged to provide their own transportation. Those who are admitted to the program must be willing to obtain a sponsor and pursue either a job, volunteer opportunities or further education.

The staff at Haley House consists of LASACs, CADCs, psychiatrists, psychologists and resident and assistant advisers who are available 24 hours a day to those living at the facility. A majority of staff at Haley House are in recovery themselves and are passionate about providing a warm environment for all residents.

Extras

Haley House offers a family reintegration program that assists clients and families in reuniting after treatment. It also offers family members therapy and education about the disease model of addiction.

In Summary

Haley House empowers residents with support, education and a sense of community. Though their price point is slightly higher than competing economical facilities, the treatment and recreational activities they offer go beyond the standard sober living package. This facility shows women in recovery that life can be both fulfilling and fun without drugs and alcohol.
