Bogalusa LouisianaFlorida Parishes Human Services Authority Review

Formed in 2003, Florida Parishes Human Services Authority (FPHSA) aims to provide support and services to individuals with addictions, developmental disabilities and mental illness so they may lead a satisfying and productive life within their respective communities. With facilities around Louisiana including Bogalusa, Hammond, Mandeville and Slidell, Addictive Disorders Services (a branch of FPHSA) provides outpatient and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) treatment as well as prevention services to combat addictions to alcohol, drugs, gambling and tobacco.

Treatment and Staff

FPHSA offers traditional services including evaluation, therapy and medication management, but the primary form of treatment is group and family therapy, as these two types of therapy are widely accepted as the most effective forms of counseling for additions to drugs and alcohol. Most individual needs are addressed within the group sessions, though individual therapy is available whenever necessary. Dual diagnosis support is also available. The 12-step framework is incorporated into groups and clients are encouraged to attend offsite meetings as well. Treatment is individualized and the duration depends on the needs of each client, though programs typically lasts seven to nine months. In the beginning, treatment is typically attended daily, but is then reduced to twice weekly after the initial months of the program, then only once a week in the succeeding months. Detox is not available at FPHSA.

FPHSA staff are all certified mental health workers, medical psychologists and LSWs. Since FPHSA also treats developmental disabilities and mental health disorders, clients have access to a range of professionals to meet their treatment needs.

Extras

FPHSA also offers a number of other services through contracted providers including respite care, case management, crisis intervention, in-home therapy, vocational training and housing support.

In Summary

FPHSA provides primary and preventative mental and behavioral health care services, treating both adults and adolescents throughout the state of Louisiana who suffer from mental illness, disabilities and addictive disorders with a strong emphasis on family and group therapy. Services are available to all, regardless of one’s ability to pay, and discounts are offered to families depending on size and income. Insurance and Medicaid are accepted and services are offered on a walk-in basis.
