Decatur GeorgiaDeKalb Community Service Board Review

The DeKalb Community Service Board is a community-based organization that offers behavioral health services and programs for those with developmental disabilities. Located in Atlanta, Georgia, the substance abuse treatment program at DCSB offers a both a day and evening Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) which incorporate traditional therapy and evidence based methods of treatment. Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is also available for those with severe withdrawal symptoms from opiates.

Treatment and Staff

Clients seeking substance abuse treatment may choose from either the day or evening program. Groups are scheduled during the day between 9 am and 12:30 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and in the evenings between 5 and 8:20 pm on the same days. Both tracks typically consist of daily psycho-educational group therapy, an individual therapy session, a skill building group, education and sometimes family therapy.

All sessions implement CBT and DBT methodology and the 12-steps are also integrated into treatment with AA/NA meetings hosted on-site. Random urine drug screening tests are also administered throughout treatment. Case management services ensure progress is being made by each client and helps to determine the duration of treatment and whether changes or adjustments in treatment need to be made to suit their recovery needs.

Pharmaceutical interventions are also available for those who need MAT in the form of Naltrexone, Methadone and Suboxone. Aftercare planning is also available, as are referrals to other programs that may offer further support treatment as-needed.

The staff at DCSB consists of medical doctors, MAs, Certified Healthcare Constructors (CHCs) and an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).

Extras

In addition to the comprehensive IOP, DCSB also offers numerous other community programs and social services. Mental health counseling, community support services, developmental disabilities services, child and adolescent mental health services and crisis services are all available as are HIV testing and a pharmacy.

In Summary

The DeKalb Community Service Board offers a comprehensive IOP with both day and evening hours available. Through a variety of evidence-based treatment options and a solid selection of groups, clients seeking flexible scheduling and a 12-step approach are given the best possible opportunity for recovery.
