danville virginiaDanville-Pittsylvania Community Services Review

Created in 1972, Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services provides mental health, intellectual disability, substance abuse and prevention services to residents of Danville, Virginia. All programs are offered on an outpatient basis, with services including assessments, individual therapy, case management and group therapy. Through evidence-based therapies and a focus on relapse prevention, clients build a foundation for sobriety.

Treatment and Staff

DPCS offers outpatient care for both substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Prior to beginning treatment, each client must schedule an evaluation. Detox and residential care referrals can be made upon request at this stage as well, since these services are not available directly through DPCS.

Group therapy is offered once a week for an hour and a half. Topics covered during group sessions include relapse prevention, life skills, coping mechanisms, family dynamics, relationships and emotional processing. Therapy relies primarily on CBT and DBT techniques, all in a setting which encourages peer bonding. Clients also receive education on the effects of prolonged chemical dependency during their time in treatment.

Individual therapy is available as its own form of treatment, and can be scheduled on a weekly, bi-weekly on monthly basis. Because one-on-one therapy is so individualized, treatment length varies on a case-by-case basis for this option. Support for mental health issues is available through therapy and medication management. Case management is also available whenever applicable. The staff at DPCS consists of LADCs and psychiatrists. Groups sizes vary from two to 10 clients at a time.

Extras

DPCS provides an array of additional services in addition to treatment for drug abuse and mental health. These include a supportive employment program, mental health day treatment, vocational and life skills counseling, coordinated dental services, special care for postpartum women with substance abuse issues, jail assessments, housing for those with mental illness, school and outreach services and short-term residential care for severe mental illness.

In Summary

Overall, Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services offers affordable outpatient care for adults with a range of supplemental offerings designed to combat mental illness. Though the program is relatively no-frills, the facility offers a professional staff and all the necessities to begin a sober life. For those in Virginia seeking basic, flexible and care for a range of issues, Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services is a good choice.
