Changing Tides Treatment Centers Outpatient Review
Changing Tides Treatment Centers provides several levels of substance abuse treatment, including detox, residential, outpatient and sober living. Its outpatient offerings, which include a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient treatment, are located near the beach in Ventura, California, just north of Los Angeles.
The CARF-accredited Changing Tides is equipped to provide dual diagnosis support and trauma-informed care. The Changing Tides outpatient program and sober living facility, Hollywood Beach Recovery, opened their doors in 2015, and their residential program began operating in August 2016.
Treatment and Staff
Many of Changing Tides’ clients are graduates of its residential program. Changing Tides also receives referrals from several other area residential programs, and so many of its outpatient clients are stepping down from full-time treatment.
Most clients stay in outpatient treatment for two to six months, beginning at the PHP level and then stepping down to IOP and standard outpatient as they progress in recovery. PHP clients attend treatment from 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday. IOP clients attend treatment from 9 am to 12:30 pm Monday through Friday and may eventually decrease frequency to the standard outpatient level of care which is usually one or two groups each week.
Treatment sessions include group therapy and psychoeducation classes on the disease of addiction and life skills. Clients also have individual therapy at least once a week. Treatment at Changing Tides uses CBT, DBT, Moral Recognition Therapy (MRT) and EMDR for clients in need of processing trauma.
The treatment team includes physicians, psychologists, LMFTs and CATC counselors. A consulting psychiatrist is available for dual diagnosis support. Clients are encouraged to explore peer support frameworks, such as 12-step, SMART Recovery and/or Refuge Recovery, but participation is not mandatory.
Extras
Changing Tides works with a consulting attorney to provide clients with legal services needed as a result of their addiction. It also organizes monthly alumni barbecues and hosts a weekly relapse prevention group for alumni. Changing Tides plans to institute family recovery groups and workshops later this year.
