Champion Center Outpatient Review
Champion Center is located in Lompoc, California, a small city 50 miles west of Santa Barbara that’s home to the Vandenberg Air Force Base. Champion Center opened its doors in 2014 and offers a unique multi-stage substance abuse treatment program in a newly-built complex. Its services include medically-supervised detox, residential treatment and sober living in modern condominiums. It also provides outpatient treatment at the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient levels of care.
Treatment and Staff
Outpatient treatment plans last an average of two months. Clients usually start at the PHP level, where they attend group therapy from 8 am to 5 pm, six days a week. After approximately four weeks, they may step down to the IOP level, which meets for group therapy three to four days or evenings a week. After the IOP, they may continue to step down to standard outpatient for group therapy once or twice a week. Clients also have individual therapy at least once a week.
Groups use CBT, DBT and the 12-step framework to help clients handle triggers, create boundaries and develop coping skills. Gender-specific groups are also held each day and use the Seeking Safety curriculum. Champion Center has dedicated treatment groups for military personnel suffering from PTSD in its Heroes Program and also has groups for those in need of chronic pain management.
Twelve-step recovery is a foundation of treatment and clients are encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings several times a week and to obtain a sponsor.
While Champion Center isn’t dually-licensed to treat mental health disorders, it does address co-occurring disorders in group therapy and it can provide dual diagnosis support through telepsychiatry appointments and referrals to local mental health clinics.
The treatment team at Champion Center includes physicians, psychologists, LMFTs and CADCs.
Extras
Outpatient clients are welcome to dine at the Santa Lucia Cafe, the facility’s upscale dining commons.
Champion Center holds periodic family weekends that offer educational workshops and support groups. Clients can also bring loved ones to individual therapy for family counseling. For aftercare, clients can attend a weekly alumni group. There’s also a group for family of alumni held on the same night each week.
