Carolina Counseling and Consultation Review
Carolina Counseling and Consultation is an outpatient clinic with services for mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities. Clients have three offices to choose from—with locations in historic downtown Salisbury, Lexington and Concord, North Carolina. Services for substance abuse are highly individualized, consisting primarily of individual therapy. Evidence based treatment is used to help clients navigate through the recovery process.
Treatment and Staff
Carolina Counseling and Consultation treats substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Each client receives an initial biopsychosocial evaluation so that counselors can develop personalized treatment plans. For those in need of detox or residential care, referrals are available.
After completing an evaluation, each client is paired with a therapist who best suits their needs. Treatment is conducted on a one-to-one basis, through individual sessions that are usually each an hour long. Clients typically attend treatment once a week, although more sessions can be added as necessary. Evidence based therapies including CBT and DBT are frequently used. The 12 steps are included as clients wish, though this is not a mandatory part of the program.
A Suboxone clinic is available for opiate users. Those in this program typically participate in a mixture of therapy and medication management. The length of treatment depends on each individual’s needs.
The facility also offers group therapy, which is mandatory for clients receiving treatment through the Suboxone clinic. For those working primarily with an individual therapist, these group sessions are optional. Groups cover topics such as relapse prevention and healthy coping skills. Support for mental health issues such as depression and anxiety can be addressed during therapy. In addition, a psychiatrist is available for medication management.
The staff consists of LADCs, psychiatrists, LPCs and social workers.
Extras
In-school therapy is available for young children and adolescents after an initial on-site visit. This service allows students to receive support without distracting them from their studies. An eight-week parenting group is also offered. This service assists parents in better understanding the needs of their children, while also developing strong communication skills and boundaries.

Carolina Counseling and Consultation offers substance abuse treatment rooted in evidence based therapy. Though therapy is fairly basic and mostly limited to one-on-one sessions, support for co-occurring issues is available and services come at an affordable price. Those in need of acute substance abuse care may need to look elsewhere, but clients requiring medication management and basic outpatient treatment should find a program to fit their needs at Carolina Counseling and Consultation.
