Booker Behavioral Health Review
Riverview Medical Center’s Booker Behavioral Health provides an outpatient program and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for substance abuse treatment in Red Bank, New Jersey. The facility was founded in 1974, moving to a larger location in 2007 due to a high demand for its services.
Treatment and Staff
Clients should expect to stay in treatment at BBH for more than 30 days, though they work with clinicians to decide how long would be appropriate. Generally speaking, those in IOP stay in treatment longer than clients placed in regular outpatient treatment.
All treatment at BBH is based on group therapy, though the number of sessions per week varies on a case-by-case basis. Clients in IOP participate in three group sessions weekly while regular outpatient clients attend at least one per week. Individual therapy sessions also vary by client based on need. Therapists use CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques and clients learn about relapse prevention. Medication management is available for those who need it. The program at Booker Behavioral Health is 12-step oriented but the staff do not use SMART Recovery in working with clients.
Psychiatrists on staff are available to meet with dual diagnosis clients. If a client’s mental health worsens, they can be admitted to the inpatient psychiatric unit at Riverview Medical to address the issues underlying their substance abuse. Detox services are not available.
Five clinical staff members work with clients, for a staff-to-client ratio of approximately one-to-twelve. Three clinicians are licensed as CADCs, one is an LCSW and one is a CADC intern working toward full certification.
Extras
A family program is available for IOP clients’ loved ones. Families participate in therapy sessions based on need or at their request. During these group sessions, they learn about the addiction process and how they can be help the recovery process.
Aftercare at BBH may include psychiatric support for alumni suffering from a dual diagnosis and in need of additional help.
