Aurora Center for Treatment Review
Aurora Center for Treatment offers counseling for substance abuse and mental health issues in Aurora, Colorado. There are two other locations in the nearby towns of Chambers and Berkley. Services for substance abuse are highly individualized and include individual and group therapy.
Treatment and Staff
Care at Aurora begins with an initial bio-psycho-social evaluation with a counselor. The results of this meeting inform an individualized treatment plan for each client. For those who need detox or residential treatment, referrals are available when necessary.
Primarily, clients at Aurora spend their time in individual therapy sessions where CBT and DBT modalities are employed. Typically, clients meet with their therapist once a week for an hour at a time. Topics covered in these sessions include coping skills, healthy communication and relapse prevention. Support for co-occurring mental health issues such as depression and anxiety can also be addressed whenever necessary. While 12-step participation is not mandatory, AA/NA meetings are recommended during free time for added support.
Clients also have access to gender-specific substance abuse group therapy sessions twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Groups range from five to 10 people at a time. Those who participate in treatment at Aurora also have the option of engaging in family or couples therapy. During these one hour sessions, clients and their loved ones work on issues involving codependency, communication, coping skills and healthy boundaries. The staff at Aurora consists of Master’s-level therapists.
Extras
Breathalyzers and urinalysis tests are available upon request. Additional groups are offered for those who are court ordered due to issues with domestic violence and anger management. For those who have been convicted of a DUI, Level II education and therapy is available as well.

In all, Aurora Center for Treatment offers basic substance abuse treatment rooted in evidence-based therapies. With individualized care and plenty of one-on-one attention, the program offers outpatient care for those in need of flexible treatment. While structured outpatient programs are not offered, Aurora Center for Treatment remains a good resource for those in the area.
