Located in Chicago, Illinois, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center offers a range of behavioral health services. Outpatient services include affordable care for mental health and substance abuse issues for children, adolescents and adults. In addition, individual, group and family therapy services are also available. Using evidence based therapies and SMART Recovery, clients learn how to thrive in sobriety.

Treatment and Staff

Advocate Illinois has several services geared specifically toward substance abuse such as an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Risk Education for DUI offenders and individual therapy. Following an initial assessment, clients are placed in a program that best suits their needs. Detox is not available.

IOP meets three to four times a week for three hours per session. Meeting times are available Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 1 pm or from 6 pm to 9 pm. Groups focus on addiction education, relapse prevention, problem solving, coping skills and anger management. Clients attend one hour-long individual session per week as well, with modalities such as CBT and DBT used to change negative thought patterns. While many treatment facilities rely on the 12-step recovery model, Advocate Illinois instead offers on-site SMART Recovery meetings once a week, though these are optional.

In addition to structured outpatient, clients have access to individual therapy as its own treatment path. Each session runs for 45 minutes to an hour, covering topics like coping skills, communication and relapse prevention strategies. There’s also comprehensive support for mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.

The treatment team consists of LADCs and Master’s-level therapists. Groups sizes range from 10 to 15 clients at a time.

Extras

The Risk Education program offers 10 hours of education for those required to attend alcohol and drug education sessions as a stipulation of a court-order. In addition to offering substance abuse services, the facility provides a wide range of groups for mental health, behavioral health and family issues.

In Summary

In all, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center offers a range of outpatient programs to accommodate both self-referred and court-ordered clients. Those who would prefer a more 12-step oriented program may want to look elsewhere, but for those interested in SMART Recovery backed by evidence-based therapy, Advocate Illinois is a worthy and affordable choice.
