The Basics
Founded in 1986, Women’s Recovery Center is an all-female outpatient drug and alcohol treatment facility in Cleveland, Ohio. Clients take part in a comprehensive program that moves them from through primary care all the way to aftercare.
Treatment and Staff
The three-stage program at WRC addresses not only chemical dependency but family roles, parenting, case management and relapse prevention strategies. Though the structure is somewhat standardized, programs are individualized and clients can attend morning, afternoon or evening groups to fit their schedule.
The first phase is Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that meets three times a week for four weeks. This stage focuses on teaching clients about the disease concept of addiction and other related topics. The second phase is relapse prevention, meeting twice a week for five weeks. During this time, clients also attend family roles and relationships workshops. The third phase is an eight-week aftercare program, which meets once a week, and focuses on building support through sober networking and recovery journaling. All treatment is trauma-informed with a focus on physical and emotional healing. Art therapy is also offered as part of the program and some clients may be expected to attend off-site 12-step meetings.
Staff consists of of Master’s level counselors, LPCs, RNs, LSWs and art therapists.
Extras
WRC offer a five-week practical parenting class that meets once a week from 9:15 to 11:45 am. The first class examines the actual dynamics of a family relationship, the second focuses on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and how to be a healthy sober parent. By the final session, clients will have learned how to build healthier relationships and foster a supportive and sober family environment. The organization also accepts clothing donations for women and houses a computer lab where women can work on their resumes and search for jobs while in treatment.
