The Basics
Wolfe Apartments is a sober living environment in Naples, Florida under the umbrella of St. Matthews House—a ministry that offers help and housing to the homeless and individuals in recovery. The complex is designed for male clients who are currently enrolled in Justin’s Place (a long-term recovery program for men and women) as well as Justin Place’s “Recovery for Life” program. The apartments were built in 2003 and are partially funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, allowing for a highly discounted rent.
Accommodations and Amenities
The 46-unit building in Naples has every appearance of a traditional modern apartment complex. Each apartment houses two or three residents in two bedrooms with a shared bathroom and common areas—a stocked kitchen and furnished living room.
Wolfe residents are served three meals a day through the St. Matthews Feeding Ministry. Dinner is served at the apartments while breakfast and lunch are eaten at St. Matthews Food Bank. All meals are cooked on-site and are prepared from a set menu. Although St. Matthews does not accommodate special dietary needs, they do serve a wide variety of food so all tastes and needs are met.
Wolfe operates a career center that assists residents with resume tips and applying for jobs. The center is located in Naples and staff members provide transportation to and from the location. Transportation is also provided for travel to and from AA/NA meetings in the local community.
The building also has a communal dorm room with 16 bunk beds reserved for clients who are enrolled in Justin’s Place’s “motivational” phase.
Rules and Regulations
Wolfe enforces strict rules when it comes to outside communication as they prefer clients to avoid peer pressure and old behaviors. Residents are allowed overnight passes and visits after completing 90 days of treatment. For the first 30 days, clients are not permitted to use the phone and cannot receive or send mail. Use of electronics and cell phones is restricted until the staff deems the client fit for the responsibility.
St. Matthew’s is a faith-based organization so clients are encouraged to attend church on Sundays and various faith-oriented meetings throughout the week.
The apartments have a curfew of 10 pm and Wolfe regularly performs drug and breathalyzer tests. The facility enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy on relapse that requires residents to leave the facility immediately upon testing positive for drugs or alcohol.
Extras
Clients at Wolfe Apartments regularly participate in extracurricular activities and organized group trips including bowling nights, fishing trips and sober volleyball games. Wolfe also hosts a yearly retreat every March when clients go camping for four days.
Additionally, clients are given a membership to a local Planet Fitness and transportation is provided to and from the gym every morning.
In Summary
Wolfe Apartments is ideal for clients seeking sober living connected to a residential program. The affordable apartments are a good fit for clients wishing to get back on their feet financially while they establish themselves as contributing members of the community. As a faith-based organization, the St. Matthew’s recovery programs may not suit everyone.
