The Basics
Based out of Winslow, Arizona, Winslow Guidance Associates is a straight-forward outpatient treatment program for substance abuse and addiction catering primarily to court-ordered clientele. The program is headed by motivational speaker Bob Candelaria, who also serves as CEO.
Treatment and Staff
A primary treatment option at Winslow Guidance Associates is a comprehensive DUI program, offered in state-certified Levels I and II. This track begins with an initial screening that determines the appropriate treatment tier for each client. Level II consists of 16 hours of educational groups, which meet twice a month on Saturdays from 8 am to 5:30 pm. Level I is the more intensive option featuring the same group options as Level II but with an additional 20 hours of treatment. The facility is open from 9 am to noon and from 1 to 5 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 1 to 5 pm on Wednesdays to accommodate attendee schedules.
The Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) meets during the day from 10:30 am to 3 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as from 3:30 to 5 pm on Wednesdays. Evening groups meet from 5:30 to 9 pm on the same days. Treatment consists of individual and group counseling with a focus on CBT as well as family therapy. Regular AA/NA meeting attendance is also required.
Staff at Winslow Guidance Associates is made up of Licensed Substance Abuse Counselors (LSACs) and Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs).
Extras
Domestic violence groups for both men and women are available as well as parenting classes for fathers. Clients can also attend weekly aftercare groups for clients who have completed treatment. Spanish and Navajo-speaking services are also available.
The facility plans on expanding to provide a women’s perinatal day program with a range of support services, including a juvenile program for 13 to 18-year olds.

While treatment options at Winslow Guidance Associates are fairly basic, evidence-based methods are facilitated in conjunction with traditional 12-step methods to achieve a solid foundation for recovery.
