Kerrville TexasThe Basics

Founded in 2016 in Kerrville, Texas by Nikki Saurage and her daughter Cali Saurage, The White Lily House provides faith-based sober living for women. After previously opening two female-only sober living homes that have since closed, Nikki Saurage focused on opening a house that has a Christ-centered approach this time around. The mission of The White Lily House is to provide safe and structured sober living, where the atmosphere incorporates biblical principals to help guide and support the residents.

Accommodations and Amenities

Nestled on over an acre of wooded land, the White Lily House is a sprawling ranch-style residence with stone siding and bright green trim. The house includes a fenced backyard, a koi pond, rock patio and an enormous swimming pool. Smoking is permitted in outside designated areas.

Twelve clients are accommodated at a time. At The White Lily House, there is the belief that isolation is harmful to early recovery so most clients share rooms. There is one double-occupancy room, one quadruple-occupancy room and a huge garage which has been converted into a studio, which accommodates six women. The rooms include twin beds, dressers and closets. Upon arrival, clients receive fresh bedding and a shower caddy.

The fully equipped kitchen includes extra pantry space for food storage. Clients are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation. In keeping with a family style atmosphere, a weekly dinner is provided where all residents break bread. Amenities include laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, a house computer with webcam, and a landline with long distance calling privileges. A house manager lives on the premises.

Rules and Regulations

Prior to admission, clients must undergo an interview and tour the house. Additionally, they must be clean and sober. Clients must attend 90 Celebrate Recovery or 12-step meetings in 90 days. By the end of 30 days, clients must have a sponsor who can’t be a house resident. Other requirements include attending the Sunday night 9:15 pm house meeting, finding a job within the first two weeks, acquiring a home group and a service commitment within 30 days of arrival. Those with work shifts that are between the hours of 11 pm and 7 am must receive clearance from the house manager. Clients who can’t find a job must volunteer between 24 and 32 weekly hours of community service. Performance of household chores is also mandatory.

The curfew is 11 pm Mondays through Thursdays, 12 am on Fridays and Saturdays and 9:15 pm on Sundays (due to house meeting). During a workday, clients must be up by 9 am. Sleeping in until 11 am is permitted on days off from work. Forbidden behaviors include engaging in sexual relations on the premises, allowing men to enter the house, sneaking in firearms and hunting deer and other animals on the surrounding property. Clients are subject to random drug and alcohol screenings. Women who relapse are immediately evicted from the premises. They must check into detox, if necessary, or stay away from the house for three days. Re-admittance into the house is determined on a case-by-case basis, and by a house vote.

Clients requiring outpatient treatment are referred to Brookswood Recovery, which provides an eight-week Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Weekly treatment includes nine hours of group and one hour of individual therapy. Medication management under the care of a psychiatrist is available, for clients with co-occurring disorders. The IOP is from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday.

Extras

Other White Lily House services include Bible study, outdoor meditation and a weekly “As Bill sees It” meeting. A weekly appointment with a peer recovery coach is also recommended.

In Summary

Since The White Lily House has recently opened, the faith-based aspects are still being integrated into the program. At this point, the Christ-centered approach is suggested, but not required. Meanwhile, The White Lily House offers a comprehensive 12-step protocol, with the awareness that clients might require outpatient treatment. The location is gorgeous and having plenty  of communal space and a huge swimming pool is an added bonus, and conducive to recovery.
