Mayfield KentuckyThe Basics

Western Kentucky Drug and Alcohol Intervention Services (WKDAIS) was founded in 1991 as a support service for DUI offenses and remains the second oldest continuously operating DUI program in the state of Kentucky. Over time, services have evolved to include both a general outpatient track and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). With five facilities in Tennessee and four in Kentucky, WKDAIS helps the community struggling with substance abuse and addiction to access treatment, supporting them as they get their lives back on track. Run by a staff of recovered addicts who have over 100 years of sobriety between them, WKDAIS endorses the belief that alcoholism and drug addiction are diseases that deserve compassion and understanding, rather than judgment or shame.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at WKDAIS is individualized, with programs based on current need, client history and legal requirements for DUI clients. After an assessment and intake, clients are enrolled in one of WKDAIS’ education programs as well as general outpatient or the IOP.

Treatment tracks last anywhere from 90 days to 52 weeks, depending on the program. Detox and dual diagnosis support are not available at this time, but clients participate in educational classes, individual and group therapy and on-site 12-step meetings. Groups (which range in size from eight to 12 clients) discuss the common struggles in addiction and recovery as well as anger management.

The staff at WKDAIS is comprised of administrators, a psychiatrist, four LDACs and CSWs. Once the facility obtains its state license for psychiatry, dual diagnosis care will be available as well.

Extras

In addition to outpatient treatment for substance abuse, WKDAIS works with child protective services, provides referrals to inpatient facilities and offers on0site drug testing (both oral swab and urine screening).

In Summary

Unlike many rehab facilities, WKDAIS does not work with insurance companies, preferring to allow treatment to remain anonymous and “off the record.” This policy may be particularly attractive to those struggling with feelings of shame, who can’t have treatment on record for employment purposes or who don’t want pre-existing conditions to haunt them later on with insurance policies. Clients receive three hours of care with a psychiatrist for a nominal fee. While Medicaid, sliding scale and private insurance are not available, treatment is accessible and affordable.

WKDAIS is a compassionate outpatient treatment facility offering professional, high quality care to residents of Kentucky and Tennessee. Run by a staff who can fully relate to the struggles of those suffering from alcohol and drug abuse, WKDAIS provides both standard and IOP levels of treatment, a track tailored specifically for those facing conviction for a DUI/DWI and on-site 12-step meetings, setting clients up for long-term success.
